Graduate school in marine environmental research

A multidisciplinary graduate school in environmental marine research is organised by Gothenburg Centre for Marine Research with funding from the University of Gothenburg. The school consists of seven paired projects, each including two PhD students and two supervisors from two separate faculties.

Graduate school visions

  • To foster a new generation of young scientists with experience in working in a multidisciplinary research environment
  • To link competences from two different disciplines (different faculties) into a common research project in which added-value is gained from synergies between the different competences

14 PhD student positions within the graduate school

8 Ph D students from the graduate school participated at a conference on interdisciplinarity at Tjärnö in October 2012.

The graduate school will recruit in total 14 research students, working in 7 pair-projects.  The two students and the two (or more) supervisors within each project should collaborate to the extent that at least one multidisciplinary (co-authored) manuscript or conference paper is provided.

Each research student will be affiliated to a "home department" (the department of the supervisor) and be examined in accordance with the rules of the department. Research students and their supervisors of the graduate school are expected to take part of seminars, workshops and similar activities arranged by the school.
