Managing the sea and the marine ecosystems is complex and involves many different stakeholders. Research on marine issues therefore needs continuous input and dialogue with actors outside the academy.
A main goal for Gothenburg Centre for Marine Research is to facilitate initiatives and collaborations between the broad range of different research disciplines working actively within the field of marine research at the University of Gothenburg.
The Faculty of Science is a leader in marine biological research and also has strong departments in oceanography and marine chemistry. Research conducted at the Sahlgrenska Academy on pharmaceutical contamination is related to marine environments. The marine research is focusing on environmental economic and environmental law perspectives at the School of Business, Economics and Law. The Faculty of Social Science is strong within environmental research and specializes in environmental management, environmental behavior and policy issues. Maritime research at the Faculty of Arts relates human activities to marine environmental topics.
Gothenburg Centre for Marine Research will also help establish collaborations with marine and maritime stakeholders outside the academic sphere.
